L’état de siège à Marseille

While in Marseille we also got to see a bit of the recent rioting first-hand.

As Hanna drove Lolo home there was a poubelle en feu right outside her flat.

La poubelle en feu

We saw youths in masks running around and the next day saw burnt out cars around the city.

I stole my headline from La Provence

Also, when we were having lunch Chez Hanna the next day, she got a call from the local administration telling her not to put her bins out that night.

That should fix it.

Un weekend à Marseille ou je suis devenu tonton

As Matthew and his friends had gone to stay with Cath’s sister in Aix-en-Provence we took the opportunity to join them this weekend.

We went to a lovely lake – étang de la bonde – for some food, some swimming and a few drinks.

We also got the chance to see Alma again who is talking both French and glish- as she says.

When asked who I was, she replied tonton – and my heart melted.

She is getting much bigger

We also sampled some local delicacies like panisses – chickpea slices. Delicious.

And we stayed in a delightful AirB&B which we will definitely use again.

What a great AirB&B

Un nouveau mode pour pratiquer mon Francais

Cath bought this book for Alma who we will be seeing this weekend.

The Smartest Giant in Town

I read this a lot to our boys when they were little so I know passages off by heart – like:

My tie is a scarf for a cold giraffe, my shirt’s on a boat as a sail for a goat, my shoe is a house for a little white mouse, one of my socks is a bed for a fox, my belt helped a dog who was crossing a bog, but look me up and down I’m the smartest giant in town.

So what’s that in French?

C’est comme ça
So here is a very fine crown to go with the sandals and gown of the kindest giant in town

Des invités sont arrivés

We have some guests with us this week! Matthew arrived with his friends Ella and Toni on a tour of Europe.

They started in Paris, then a few days with us then off to Aix-en-Provence, Nice and Genoa.

We took them to Aiguebelette to get away from the heat and to swim.

Deux cygnes
The water was nice and refreshing

Finalement, j’ai nagé

Il fait chaud à Lyon alors on est allé a la piscine.

Ça fait longtemps que je n’ai pas nagé alors je m’en ai profité de la piscine de 50m.

Centre Nautique Tony Bertrand

Il y avait beaucoup de monde.

Cath a vu des jeunes filles qui se battaient et on a vu aussi quatre garçons qui sont entrée ilegalement.

Saw four kids bunking in this way

Je doix trouver une piscine à Lyon qui est moins bondé.
