Le roi Charles III à Lyon

Today was the coronation of King Charles and I went to work to oversee the coverage Chez Euronews.

On the way in I cycled past a kid sitting on a child-seat behind their dad waving a Union Jack!

The coverage went well with live blogs in 10 languages.

Then later in the day while exploring a market in the 6eme we stumbled across King Charles himself.

Lyon se prepare pour l’été

How can you tell summer is coming? Well in Lyon one sure sign is the outside seating areas being assembled outside almost every restaurant or bar.

La nettoyage
L’assemblage

Some areas are further ahead in their preparations – the peniches au bord du Rhône are already enjoying great business.

Les traditions du 1eme Mai

Today is 1 May – a bank holiday in France – workers’ day. There seem to be two traditions – protesting and buying les muguets- lily of the valley.

I didn’t see any trouble but maybe I was out too early.

The other tradition is the buying of Lily of the Valley for your loved ones – either in a supermarket or at one of the street vendors who pop up for that very reason.

There were lots of takers

Tailler les arbres

Sur la grue

I saw the trees in Franklin Roosevelt being pruned this morning. They are being cut into a lovely box shape.

Look at that straight line!

On my way home I saw the tree surgeons had made some real progress. They must have been working with a ruler.

I hope they are going to finish the job with the trees outside our flat.

They certainly need it

Guadeloupe highlights

As our time in Guadeloupe draws to a close it is worth reflecting on some highlights.

  • The hotel – living the life of luxury for 12 days. It was like living in the TV series White Lotus.
  • The weather – gorgeous every day.
  • The sea – crystal clear with amazing views of shoals of blue and green fish – les bancs de poissons.
  • Adding 34 birds to my life list – including a mangrove cuckoo – in the expert hands of the Caribbean’s top bird guide.
  • Seeing the sights of Guadeloupe from the slavery museum to the rum museum to the markets and the national park and waterfall.

An excellent way to celebrate our 25th and 26th wedding anniversaries. À la prochaine.
